About Groundwork Collective

Hey there, and welcome to my little corner of the internet!

My name is Taylor Tatum, and I’m a backcountry & trail riding focused horse trainer, photographer, and creative based in Central Oregon. My approach to horsemanship is grounded in clarity, empathy, and trust, building solid foundations on the ground before ever stepping into the saddle.

I spent four years apprenticing under horseman Mike Chappell and continue to learn alongside other local trainers. Over time, my work has evolved from learning how to make horses do things to helping them want to engage, through relationship, choice, and clear communication.

In 2025, I completed my Master’s in Clinical Counseling. While I originally planned to pursue equine-assisted therapy, I’ve chosen to integrate those concepts into a more personal path. One that blends horsemanship, creative storytelling, and community.

Through developing Groundwork Collective in 2022, and now its media arm, High Desert Creative in 2025, I offer thoughtful horse training, seasonal lessons and trail rides, and content creation for fellow horsewomen, events, rural businesses, and Western brands. Whether I’m in the arena, on the trail, or behind the lens, my goal is always the same: to support honest connection between horses, humans, and the stories that shape them.
